Last long run before Houston

Excellent 18 mile run today. Despite the warm temps and humid conditions. It was a good run.
Temps were 65 to 70 between 6am and 10am this morning. Pretty much brutal conditions. We did have a bit of a head wind/breeze to cool us towards the end. It was welcome.

Ran with Emily, Peter, Eric, Cindy. Coach Scott ran with us for the first 6 miles. We also had Adriana and JC/JT run with us.

The course was the front half of the Austin marathon course. As well as the last couple of miles. Hello hills. lot's of hills today. The proposed course change on the run up Congress, took us past Lightsey and to Krebs. West on an extremely narrow road, and then down 1st. We were all the way out to Ben White. Not a huge fan of this change. It just makes the first few miles a bit tougher and will make the first turn to the west quite congested. If the marathon was started in waves or if there were separate starts for the half and full then it would not be too much of an issue, as per congestion. But, who knows maybe this will not be part of the actual marathon and was only a thought. It does seem that it is likely to be this. Austin is already a tough course, this just makes it a bit more so. (As you run up Congress and past Lightsey then you are still going up hill, and it was uphill on Krebs as well. Not huge, just more hills.) More so in that you'll need to be strategic in your race plan. Those who go out too hard in the first half of the marathon will have a hard time. Plan wisely folks.

We ran pretty easy in the first 6 or 8 miles. We pushed it a bit up the hills on exposition. The warm temps made the day tough. But I felt good throughout the run. It gives me a good bit of confidence as we go into the taper for Houston.

Taper time starts now. Time to rest, focus, get it on for Houston.

After the run saw lot's of Rogues, tried to chat/catch up with as many as I could. Had coffee and tacos with Cindy, Eric, Emily, and Peter. That was great. And I must say these four people make my day and my season of training. They are all great people, great runners, and each day that I get to see and run with them is a pleasure. Without them my experience would not be what it is.

I got a quick session in with doc Briggs at the new Rogue Adv. Rehab location. Extremely helpful to get some work on the hammy post run.

Home for an ice bath, and some trigger point rolling on the legs and hammy. good stuff.

Tomorrow recovery run.

It's Wildcard weekend, Yahoo!!!

Run long...

Right back at you, Chuck... I couldn't imagine my running world without you!

Good luck with the taper madness! We'll all be on the lookout for a disoriented Chuck wandering around Rogue... "time for taper, must taper, gotta taper!"
